Paper Stars
- When with the winter Christmas came again
- The people wore their fake, courageous smile
- The street was dressed up prettily so rain
- Could make the branches sag, the street a Nile
-
At home some paper stars adorned the room
- The plastic tree put in an empty niche
- Electric candles for a homey gloom
- And stilted Santas as a bit of kitsch
-
No effort spared to find the perfect gift
- All harried women, clueless men shopped tired
- For goodies, but who dearest wished to drift
- Was Santa in a chair ho-hoing, hired
-
A slave to children in this crazy season
- Which's not a cheer now, but a lack of reason
