The Road I've Travelled
-
I have seen this road before
- The way to the left leads down
- Into a ravine littered
- Yesterday's thrills, today's messes, tomorrow's plans
- Up to the right I rarely go
- The progress I've made
- Slow
- A bit, only to go down
- Another, only to turn back
- I don't like climbing
- It makes me winded and
- So conscious of who I am not
- Have not been, am not, will never be
- Ahead the brush rustles over a steep descend
- If I take a run, I could fly
- A second before smashing
- I'm too cautious
- Mostly
- Gravity smacks me to the ground or
- An updraft catches me, and I go higher
- Than I've ever dared
- Glimpsing above the clouds
- A hundred lights, before falling
- Onto the road I've travelled
- Between I am not and I am
- Between what isn't and who is
- Has been, is, will be
- A presence that always propels me
- Choking on my heart
- A step towards the right
- Where I see what I am not
- And will be what I am
- Eventually
- Until I fall back to the left
- Only to find the junction
- I will see this road again
- Until I am no more, and will be
- What I have been, forever
